Value creation

We work with investors and boards to re-frame, re-focus and re-energise their organisations, supporting them to get back on the path to growth and value creation.

Why is this important?

The perfect storm of Brexit, Covid and recession means that companies are now exposed to unprecedented levels of uncertainty.

Progress towards value targets has been halted or significantly pushed backwards - even for those who have successfully stabilised themselves.

For the sake of all stakeholders, methods to grow value again need to be identified even if markets are unfriendly and organisations disrupted.

Why can it be difficult?

Transforming business models and organisations is challenging even in the best of times because of the multiplicity of elements which need figuring out and aligning.

It is doubly so when financial and human bandwidth is scarce, external trends are unpredictable and non-executive directors may be unusually stretched – and may not have faced similar levels of change previously.

How do investors and boards achieve success in this area?

We believe that complex change of this sort is best addressed in a logical sequence:

  • an initial period to look at the business with fresh eyes in the boardroom, with help from other managers, external stakeholders and potentially paid specialists

  • a process to formulate a re-focused executable strategy and identify the necessary actions to make it happen

  • mobilisation of internal and external resources to bring about needed changes on a sustained basis.

How can Catalysis improve outcomes?

Catalysis is able to support boards through a targeted three-stage approach:

  • RE-FRAME
We accelerate and widen the gathering of useful and fresh insight through a new tool to identify the extent and causes of impacts caused by Covid and recession, to gauge levels of alignment between directors and assess readiness for significant changes.

  • RE-FOCUS
We help directors to ‘join the dots’ by facilitating focused discussions and bringing conclusions into an easily digestible framework for subsequent discussion.

We then facilitate relevant workshop sessions to explore strategic and organisational options, develop an overall set of priorities, test for practicality and then help translate them into a sequenced plan of initiatives.

  • RE-ENERGISE
To increase the odds of execution taking place, given all the constraints and challenges and bandwidth limitations that exist, we coach and support executive teams to move forward the various change projects.

Our track record

This work requires the simultaneous deployment of most of our various skills and experience: wide spectrum assessment (as in management due diligence exercises); team, organisation and strategy development.
